Candidate's Comments:
Freedom of speech supports the freedom to articulate opinions and ideas without fear of retaliation, censorship, or legal sanction. This must be applied evenly on both sides of the political spectrum. This must also protect religious speech as long as there is no incitement to violence, obscenity, or lawlessness involved which is not protected speech under the law. Freedom of expression is also essential to individual liberty and contributes to what the Supreme Court has called the marketplace of ideas. The First Amendment assumes that the speaker, not the government, should decide the value of speech. This applies to faith based organizations operating under their deeply held religious beliefs.

Nondiscrimination law already covers the spectrum. Continually adding new groups to the list does not change that fact.

Candidate's Comments:
Life begins at conception. Abortion ends a human life. The Pro-life movement wants to protect both the mother and the baby, giving them an equal voice. All too often the argument is one sided. Things like providing a sonogram before an abortion, counseling about the physical and mental dangers of abortion, and information for alternative solutions are helpful to decrease the number of abortions. Being pro-life should also extend beyond the womb focusing on affordable adoptions and the foster care system.
