Candidate's Comments:
As someone who holds deep respect for the values that have shaped our nation, I believe in both protecting individual liberties and upholding the traditions that have made America strong. The question of whether to elevate ‘sexual orientation’ and ‘gender identity’ to protected classes in nondiscrimination laws presents a complex issue. I believe every person deserves the right to live free from discrimination and harassment, no matter who they are. At the same time, I also believe in the importance of preserving the values that support strong families and communities, which have been central to our way of life. As we consider these issues, we must find a careful balance—protecting individuals from unjust treatment without compromising the freedoms and beliefs that many of us hold dear. I’m committed to thoughtful leadership that honors both the dignity of the individual and the fabric of our shared traditions, so Arizona can continue to be a place where everyone’s rights are respected, while our values are protected. However, it’s equally important that we ensure protections for churches and businesses, so they are not forced to violate their deeply held religious beliefs. Faith-based organizations and business owners who adhere to traditional values should have the freedom to practice their beliefs without fear of legal retribution. We need solutions that protect both individual rights and religious freedoms, maintaining the delicate balance that makes our society strong.
