Candidate's Comments:

These questions are complex and nuanced and simple "Yes" and "No" are insufficient to gauge a candidate's support. For example, I generally support parent choice of schools, but oppose tax payer funding of religious schools. I believe parents can opt out of objectionable material, but only for material that is social/cultural, etc, and not based in science (i.e, parents should not be able to opt out of the study of evolution, for example). However, schools should also explore topics in an environment that is open to debate and discussion. For example, take vaccine safety and efficacy. While I think there's not doubt vaccines have been a tremendous boon for health, schools should allow discussion on, and disclose additional data, such as how all vaccine studies are funded by Big Pharma, and how elite universities sell their stamps of approval on new drugs, and how the true efficacy of vaccines has been muddied due to improvements in hygiene and public health. In general, I strongly support freedom of ideas and debate, but discourage lies and manipulation.

I generally believe schools should disclose information about a child's mental health to a parent, but not if the parent is the source or cause of harm to the child.
