Candidate's Comments:
When it comes to abortion I believe that the father, wed or unwed, who can be identified with 99% certainty by testing, should have a say in any termination desired by the mother since he will be called upon to pay child support, if an unwed or wed mother wants to keep it. Second, if the mother is underage, the parent(s) with custody over her should be notified. Third, in the first trimester there is strong sentiment from both liberals and conservatives and independents that abortion should be a decision of the adult mother and her doctor (and I add the father). Fourth, Freakeconomics, I believe it was, that showed that in areas where a long standing policy of abortions of unwanted children were easy to obtain, 18 years later the crime rate was lower. Where difficult to obtain, the unwanted children were often the criminals. Fifth, I believe that where the fetus is without problems, the arranging of private financing to bring the child to term should encouraged as may couples wish to adopt and willing to pay. Finally, with a smile, I would note that Catholics believe the life begins at conception, Jews at birth and Protestants when the dog dies and the kids leave home!

Candidate's Comments:
With regard to 9, I believe parents should be in charge of raising their children and free to seek counsel where they wish. However, taxpayer supported schools should not be allowed to have teachers or administrators take the place of parents as is too often happening.

Candidate's Comments:
When it comes to School Vouchers, it should be remembered that this amounts to taking money from some people and giving it to others. As the Libertarian Cato Institute book, Separating School and State, notes, a better plan would be to let the parents keep their money and with it make their own schooling arrangements for their children. When you think about it, education between teacher and child is largely "speech". Under the First Amendment, the federal government should have no role in funding education. President Reagan right advocated abolishing the Department of Education.
