Candidate's Comments:
I am morally opposed to abortion (except in limited situations), however, I also do not believe it is in the purview of our government to regulate abortion. Abortion is a social issue and must be solved by parents, families, religious congregations, and social support groups. It is tempting to bring the hammer of the government down on young women and doctors, but heavy-handed government intervention will not stop abortions and is likely to make the problem even worse. We have seen this happen with every other behavior the government has attempted to make illegal in the past. Government simply can't solve this problem.

Amendment I is pretty clear on all of these topics: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." I will always fight to protect our first amendment rights on all issues that threaten them.

Candidate's Comments:
It is up to private athletic associations, not the government, to determine the rules for participation in their sports programs. For programs associated with public schools, the most appropriate solution is to give parents more school choice options so that they can send thier children to schools that more closely align with thier individual beliefs.

X
Candidate's Comments:
While I believe that it is okay for schools to teach controversial subjects, I also believe that parents have the authority to decide what topics thier children are exposed to. School choice solves all of these problems. Parents should be empowered to direct thier education dollars to the school that best suits the individual needs of thier children. Instead of fighting with other parents and school boards over controversial topics, they can just elect to send their children to a school that more closely aligns with their values. Parents in control, not government.

Candidate's Comments:
Private businesses, including hospitals, have the right to hire and fire as they see fit. Government intervention in private enterprise causes more harm than benefit. This is the same as the government dictating hiring and firing policies to religious schools. I am consistently and principally opposed to both.
