Candidate's Comments:
Question 9 is restrictive. I think parents should be able to obtain professional counseling for their children struggling with gender identity issues, however, it is not to reach a desired outcome. The children need counseling with the parent to better understand what is actually happening and how it can be addressed-- not how the child can choose the outcome. Children are not of sound understanding to make a determination of what they desire, need, or want. Children are constantly changing their opinions and beliefs based on experiences, interactions, and maxims one holds. We can not make permanent decisions about life that could change in a day, or even in years.

In question 12, I would like to further make the case that parents shouldn't need to opt out of school materials, instead they need to opt-in. Removing the possibility the parent didn't actually receive the permission slip for the school to teach controversial material.
